Exhortation by St. John Paul II to contemplate the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Let us contemplate the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is the source of life, since by means of it victory over death was achieved. It is also the source of holiness, since in it, sin, the enemy of man’s spiritual development, is defeated. The Heart of the Lord Jesus is the starting-point of the holiness of each one of us. From the Heart of the Lord Jesus let us learn the love of God and understanding of the mystery of sin – mysterium iniquitatis.

Let us make acts of reparation to the Divine Heart for the sins committed by us and by our fellow men. Let us make reparation for rejecting God’s goodness and love.

Let us draw close each day to this fount from which flow springs of living water. Let us cry out with the Samaritan woman “Give us this water”, for it wells up to eternal life.

St. John Paul II • June 6, 1999.

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have asked You for many favors, but I plead for this one… Please take it, place it in Thine open, broken Heart, and when the Eternal Father looks upon it and sees it covered with the mantle of Your Most Precious Blood, He will not refuse it. It is no longer my prayer but Yours. O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.

Amen.

Day 7

Heart in Whom the Father Was Well Pleased

This delight also means love. The eternal delight of the Father accompanied the Son when He became man, when he accepted the messianic mission to be carried out in the world, when He said that His food was to do the Father’s will.  Christ fulfilled this will to the end, making Himself obedient, even to death on the Cross. Therefore, on this Heart, on the Heart of Jesus, the Father’s delight is concentrated.

A moment of reflection

Let us pray. God the Father, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer so loved your will that He called it His food; we ask that you would make our hearts like His Heart, that we may develop a love for your will and that your delight may also rest on us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

V/ Heart of Jesus, in whom the Father was well pleased

R/ Have mercy on us.
